Laboratory Technician, Molecular Division

Job description

Performance

· Performs Pre‐Analytical tasks (receipt, qualification, and preparation of samples for testing) and high/ low complexity testing.

· Performs and supervises all daily bench work and tests required to process specimens performed in the laboratory.

· Reviews data generated by the QuantStudio™ 12K Flex system on daily basis.

· Verifies test procedures performed and establishes lab’s performance specifications, including the precision, accuracy, and reportable range

· Makes Internal Standard, Calibration, and QC solutions for QuantStudio™ 12K Flex system

· Conducts proficiency test samples sent by CAP, GA state and other agencies

· Monitors workflow to ensure SOP, QC standards and TAT

· Reviews and certifies QuantStudio™ 12K Flex system data and release results to clients

· Establishes a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed and establishing the parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensuring that acceptable levels are maintained throughout the entire testing process.

· Resolves technical problems and ensures that remedial action is taken whenever test systems deviate from the lab's established performance specifications.

Maintenance

· Responsible for instrument upkeep, troubleshooting, all test procedures, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, proficiency testing, inventory, training of personnel, and general workflow of that department.

· Conducts routine preventative maintenance on QuantStudio™ 12K Flex system, and other ancillary instruments.

· Communicates knowledge of administrative and technical procedures and policies to the individuals working in their designated area.

Documentation, Proficiency, and Inspections

· Supervises documenting all work performed in accordance with SOPs.

· Works with a consulting agency to ensure that proper procedures and practices are updated and maintained.

· Prepares laboratory for CLIA, COLA, or CAP inspections.

Inventory Management

· Maintains proper inventory of lab supplies and reagents.

· Prepares order and requisition documentation for supplies.

Customer Experience

· Interacts extensively with physicians, other technologists, nursing service, office staff, patients and visitors, via telephone.

· Assists in other customer service issues.

· Is available by phone, fax, or digital communication during lab operation or as delegated by the Laboratory Director

· Encourages and promotes a work environment that facilitates team efforts, positive attitudes, and creativity among co-workers both within and outside the department.

· Assists with quality improvement, helps identify problems, investigates, monitors, and recommends solutions for change.

Qualifications:

1. Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science or chemical, physical, or biological science

2. Minimum 2 years or more practical laboratory experience

3. 2 years QuantStudio™ 12K Flex system operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair experience

  • Collect urine, saliva, and blood samples from patients.
  • GREAT BEDSIDE MANNER. Communicate with patients to put them at ease during procedures.
  • Be able to draw blood from a variety of locations in the body.
  • Handle and use needles safely.
  • Be able to calibrate equipment used for drawing blood.
  • Present oneself in a professional manner.
  • Communicate with doctors and counselors.
  • Be able to read patient charts and interpret results accurately.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment while maintaining a focus on quality and extreme confidentiality
  • Excellent customer service skills are essential to success in this role
  • Positive approach and attitude in patient interactions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to work on multiple tasks without sacrificing quality, attention to detail, and ability to interact with staff at all levels is required
  • Basic computer knowledge including, but not limited to


Responsibilities

  • Duties will include maintaining the integrity of the collection process, maintaining records for reporting purposes, obtaining initial insurance verification for billing purposes, and packaging the specimens for shipment
  • Foster open communication between the client and Gold Coast Diagnostics Management
  • Follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for sample collection
  • Ensure the integrity of each ‘Chain of Custody’ and sample:
  • Sufficient sample volumes
  • Samples properly labeled and sealed
  • Ensure sample requisitions are complete and all information is correct:
  • Utilize Electronic Lab Requisitions for sample submissions
  • Answer questions from client/patients regarding Gold Coast Diagnostics policies
  • Complete and maintain required Compliance Training
  • HIPAA Training, etc
  • Comply with all applicable safety requirements including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Order supplies and manage budget as required
  • Verify insurance information through Passport as needed
  • Request/collect payment from patients (where applicable)
  • Maintain regular communication with Manager
  • Support manager in his/her marketing and sales objectives with regards to sample collection
  • Maintain an excellent working knowledge of Gold Coast Diagnostics testing services
  • Encompass a “can do” attitude and represent Gold Coast Diagnostics in a professional, positive manner
  • Participate in process improvements, including process definition, measurement analysis, and implementation of controls
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill
  • Other duties as required and assigned

Employment Requirements

To ensure the competency of our caregivers, professional licensure and certification may be required for certain jobs. Licenses must be current and enable providers to practice within the state of Georgia. Proof of required licensure or certification is required prior to the first day of employment.
